Drainage & Erosion Control in Gainesville, GA

If your Gainesville yard is always wet, muddy, or washing away during storms, it’s more than just an inconvenience, it’s a drainage problem that can lead to real damage. Razor Sharp Lawn & Landscape provides custom drainage and erosion control solutions that protect your lawn, landscape, and home.

From Mundy Mill to Chattahoochee Estates, we help Gainesville homeowners fix standing water, slope runoff, and foundation drainage issues with long-lasting solutions that work.

Why Drainage Problems Are Common in Gainesville

Gainesville is known for its beautiful hills and proximity to Lake Lanier, but those same slopes and elevations can create serious drainage challenges. Many homes sit on compact clay soils, which don’t absorb water well, especially after heavy rain.

Combine that with Gainesville’s rolling terrain and frequent storms, and you get:

    • Runoff from uphill properties
    • Pooling water in low-lying yards
    • Washed-out mulch or garden beds
    • Water creeping toward crawlspaces and foundations

Without proper drainage, these issues only get worse over time.

"I called Matt at Razor Sharp Landscaping to consult on a drainage issue I had in my backyard. He gave me a couple of options, and I decided to go with landscaping the area with flowering bushes and plants, river rocks and small boulders. His quote was timely, included a sketch and plant recommendations at a reasonable cost. He and his staff arrived on time, on the day expected and completed the work very quickly. I am very happy with the results and definitely recommend them!"

Sloped Lots and Neighbor Runoff

Gainesville’s hilly landscape often means water flows from one yard into another, especially in newer subdivisions or near elevated streets. If you’re at the bottom of a hill or your neighbors are uphill, you’re more likely to see flooding, erosion, or ponding in your yard.

We design systems that intercept and redirect runoff, using swales, piping, and natural-looking solutions like dry creek beds to keep your property protected.

Matt and his crew put in a French drain for me; I had a standing water issue for several years. They did an exceptional job of not only trenching for the pipe but cleanup and laying of sod where the existing grass had been devastated by my drainage problems. They arrived when they said they would and finished the job in about 7 hours. I would recommend Razor Sharp for not only their excellent work but also a fair price! I will definitely use them again should the need arise because Matt and his crew are a "first class" outfit!

The pictures speaks for itself. Matt and Kelly did a miracle on my yard. At first I was nervous and was asking a lotta Questions. Kelly said to me, “trust the process. Trust me, it’s not gonna be bad as it looks when we’re done.” They were very professional and detailed with the information about their project. And I gotta say. They did excellent💯 They put up a retaining wall with a French drain and also pushed my hill back a little further, giving me more yardage at the bottom. We have been getting so many compliments about how good our yard looks now. And I couldn’t agree more. I highly recommend this landscaping company. They know their work. And you won’t be disappointed. As you can see with my before and after pictures. Thanks to Matt and Kelly. I have a lotta yard. More than what I thought I actually had☺️and I’m so happy and excited. I have a lotta ideas that I wanna do to my backyard now.

If water is pooling in low spots, your lawn stays soggy for days, or you notice soil erosion or foundation wetness after it rains, you likely have a drainage issue on your Gainesville property.

French drains and grading adjustments are some of the most effective solutions for properties in Braselton, especially where clay soil or poor slope is a factor.

In most residential cases, no permit is required for basic drainage installations. If work involves connecting to city storm drains or altering runoff near easements, permits may be needed. We’ll help with that if required.

Yes. We regularly design drainage systems for sloped properties in and around Gainesville. Swales, French drains, and regrading are common fixes for hillside erosion and runoff issues.
